All Natural

Hi, friends!

This post has been on my mind for about a month now and I finally am putting down into words! Scroll down to the end of this post for the products I use on a daily basis. All are pretty inexpensive!

A few years ago, I switched over from using regular makeup, hair, and body care products to using all natural, organic ones because I started doing a lot of research about really what we are putting on our skin. There have been a lot of chemicals put into products that we put on our bodies daily and with the increase in diseases and cancer, I want me and my husband to live as healthily as possible. We eat mostly paleo (I say mostly because we do eat organic, grass fed dairy). This said, here is a quick list of what I AVOID in products:

AVOID in Food:

  • Processed Grains (Your body doesn’t need the amount of bread that is commonly claimed!)
  • Processed Sugar and added sugar products
  • GMO’s
  • Soy (Bad for men!) or any variation of soy (like soy lecithin)
  • Caramel Color
  • MSG
  • HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup)
  • Any preservative, food coloring, or chemicals
  • Anything you really can’t pronounce well

Helpful Hints:

  • Stick to the Clean Fifteen Rule (basically, buy organic when you eat the skin).
  • Stick to the outer perimeter of the grocery store because this is where the fresher, healthier products can more commonly found.

AVOID in Hair/Body Products:Β

  • Soy (again, really bad for men!)
  • Aluminum (that’s right, it might be in your deodorant)
  • Laurel Sulfates
  • Parabens
  • Dimithicone (I am allergic)
  • Fragrance (this is where chemicals are hidden)
  • Non-organic hairspray, body mists, or our perfumes (spray perfumes and body mists on your clothes, NOT your skin!!)
  • Non-organic makeup! (This is a huge one!)
  • Any preservative or chemical
  • Anything you can’t pronounce!

Here is what I use for my hair and skin that is totally clean. All products can be found on Amazon, Target, Natural Grocers, or your local grocery store! I linked them to Amazon here so you can see pictures and reviews, but they might be cheaper at another location!

Myself

In the shower, I use

shampoo

Dessert Essence Fragrance Free Shampoo and Conditioner. I noticed significantly fewer breakouts on my head and around my edge of my hair. A little goes a long way, it lasts for a while. Leaves hair super soft! I always get comments on how soft my hair is, usually a lot from my sweet hubby πŸ™‚

Also, in the shower I exfoliate using a puffed exfoliating scrubby that I got at Natural Grocers. You can get something like this anywhere, like at Target.

My hubby uses

shampoo2.jpg

Jason Organics Shampoo. If dandruff is an issue, use this!!! My husband finds it to work better than any other product he has ever tried. If dandruff is not an issue, then other Jason Organics Shampoos are great, too!

SprayΒ  Β Giovanni Protective Moisture Leave-in Hair Treatment I use this immediately after I shower. I have noticed significant differences in the protection of my hair, including softer ends and not as many split ends. This stuff is AWESOME!!

Right before I dry my hair, I add

volumizer.jpg

Giovanni Volumizing Mousse. I have very fine hair and this product is the best I have found for getting volume in my hair without the greasy look!

I use a variety of deodorant products like Jason Organics or Organics. This is so so important. Do not buy deodorant with aluminum, there are scientific studies linking this ingredient to breast cancer. It is true, organic deodorant is ridiculously more expensive than the regular stuff, but I buy it happily because I actually know what is going on my skin in that area. And as women, we are special and created beings and we deserve to have healthy products on our bodies!! Here are some great options that don’t feel like you are wearing regular deodorant and smell wonderful!

Here’s the deal…

I used to severely struggle with cystic acne. Right through high school and college I looked a mess. My skin was so red and full of pimples and I dealt with so many insecurities because of it. I don’t write this to brag, but I will tell you this so you know the extent of research I have done on facial products. I quit wearing foundation (this calls for another blog post on WHY), but I do have Bare Minerals Organic Makeup on hand when I do want to wear foundation.

I use all natural organic makeup products:

mascara

Physicians Formula Fake Lash Mascara. This stuff is amazing and makes my eyelashes waaay longer than they actually are πŸ˜‰

eyeliner.jpg

Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strip Eyeliner. I love this eyeliner! It lasts all day long but super easy to wash off. I did all three on my wedding day (my sister did my makeup since I am allergic to a LOT of makeup products. Sensitive skin over here) and it looked fabulous.

Both of these products are linked to Target, but I also often buy them at Ulta when they go on sale and I stock up with my $3.50 off a $15 purchase coupon that they often send in the mail or give to you on the app. Cause #budget.

If you struggle with acne or blemishes (so, everyone) then you need to try this product. It is inexpensive and it works. It really really works. It is the best, hands down best, product for acne prone skin.

blemish stickΒ Dessert Essence Blemish Touch Stick. No drying out skin, no redness. Easy to apply in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Works like a miracle. Smells really good. Should I go on? Ok, don’t mind if I do. Takes swelling down from pimples OVERNIGHT. This, eating more balanced diet, and not stressing about my skin, saved my face. If you buy anything from this post, buy this. Take it from someone who has been there.

Some face washes and products I have been loving lately to brighten and tone my skin are

The idea that eating and living in a healthier way is more complex and expensive is completely FALSE. Yes, it might take a little more time to research certain ingredients, but it is completely worth it. As for the price tag, 1). money spent on organic products will save you health bills later on, and 2). it should be worth it to make sure that what goes in your body is to NOURISH it, not to harm your body.

All right, that’s it! Thanks for being a trooper and making it to the end of this post! Go nourish your bodies and enjoy!
